Supports For Education and Training

There are three main categories of Training open to people:

1. Industry related training

2. Training for people with disabilities

3. Training for young people

SOLAS is the National Further Education and Training Authority in Ireland. Education and Training Boards (ETBs) are the primary provider of state-funded Further Education and Training (FET) provision. While SOLAS funds the bulk of FET provision provided by ETBs, SOLAS itself is not a provider of FET.

FET is for anyone who is over 16 who wants to learn new skills or enhance existing skills to get the right job, progress to third-level or to support the achievement of personal goals.

Local Training Initiatives (LTIs)

Local Training Initiatives are set up by the ETBs to help local communities carry out valuable projects to benefit their communities, while at the same time providing work experience and training for participants. Participants receive the standard training allowance and all training on LTIs lead to QQI certification. While most of these projects are full-time, 35 hours a week, some are part-time, and the duration of the projects vary. Participants must be unemployed and over 16 years of age.
