Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance

Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance Scheme (BSCFA)

This payment is designed to help meet the costs of school uniforms. The scheme is open from June to September each year. You may qualify for the Back-to-School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BSCFA) if you meet one of these conditions:

  • you get a weekly Social Welfare payment (including Working Family Payment, Back to Work Family Dividend and)

  • you are taking part in an approved employment scheme (back to work scheme)

  • you are taking part in a recognised education or training course

  • you are involved in an Area Partnership Scheme

  • you are attending an FET, Fáilte Ireland, or Local Area Employment Services (LAES) training scheme

The Department of Social Protection pays BSCFA automatically to many customers. This means that they do not have to apply for the payment. If you qualify automatically, you will receive a notification to your www.mywelfare.ie account or by post before the end of June stating when and how your Allowance will be paid to you.

If you do not receive a notification, by the end of June, you will have to make an application online at www.mywelfare.ie.
